Two lakes the first containing chub, carp approaching 30Ib, roach, rudd, skimmers, bream, perch, tench, gudgeon, minnows, eels, and crucians. Second lake is smaller and has a small round island in the centre which can be fished with a 14.5 meter pole from all surrounding pegs. Contains all the same fish as larger lake but is predominantly skimmers and bream. Good baits on the small lake include maggot, sweetcorn and bread punch. The larger lake has an island dividing it in two with a narrow canal around 15m at the top. Good baits on the larger lake include sweetcorn, bronze/red maggot, bread and hemp. The bait that has done practically well is caster. Good fish falling to pole and chub to 7Ib on the feeder.

Review

From camp site reviews

1o mins walk away is a brilliant pub called the Kicking Donkey which serves excellent food & drink. Try the local, lethal cider! There is a beergarden with a play area too.

Site is also near Longleat & discounted entrance tickets can be bought from site reception.

Would highly recommend this site

I live a busy Town and to be able to come away and find such a quaint, friendly and I might add very busy pub which is set in the middle of no where was absolutely heaven. The Kicking Donkey have a selection of great well kept beers and the menu can please any one. I requested something which was not on the menu and instantly was told that it wasnt a problem which makes a change to most places. The bar staff and waitress's were so friendly and at no point was there ever any attitude if some one asked for something out of the ordinary. Well done to you all and good luck for the future.

Whilst staying at Brokerswood Country Park we visited the Kicking Donkey on several of occasions and were very impressed with the wonderful hospitality and excellent food. You must try it out !!

Dreaming of a snug country inn, surrounded by beautiful countryside and serving deliciously fresh, home cooked food? Then take a short drive out to Brokerswood where you will find the most wonderful pub and restaurant !

The Kicking Donkey began its career in the 1800's as a sweet shop and beer cellar. The local farmers could stop for a pint leaving their animals tied to the gate. Legend has it that a certain donkey grew tired of waiting and kicked the gate down!

The inn was taken over towards the end of 2004 by local lady, Nicky Millard (who managed the Full Moon at Rudge for 15 years). With the help of her two children, Zac and Issy, she has transformed The Kicking Donkey into a truly family inn with a fantastic outdoor children's play area. This is a great bonus for mums and dads as it is totally secure, and yet you can relax over a tasty lunch or real ale from one of the numerous picnic tables in the extensive gardens.

The Kicking Donkey has a great menu, the inspiration of renound local chef Zoe Deackes. There is the great value bar and grill menu with all the old favourites, including a sumptuous selection of home made sweets. Or if you would prefer something extra special, the a la carte restaurant menu offers a delicious variety of freshly prepared food - try Salmon Steak served with chilli prawns and a herb butter. Delectable! There is also a good range of steaks and sauces, and for lighter appetites, baguettes, ploughmans, jacket potatoes and salads.

The inn has a warm and cosy atmosphere with lots of old beams, a stone brick floor and a toasty fire as a focal point. The lighting is just right, and whether you are there for an intimate dinner for two in the non smoking restaurant or a family meal out, you will immediately feel relaxed and welcomed.

The atmosphere is so relaxing, and the friendly and flexible staff make a real effort to make you feel at home. Zoe, the chef for instance is happy to prepare smaller portions or something not on the menu (if she has the ingredients!) at your request.

Nicky also caters for private parties, weddings and any special occasions you may wish, she would be delighted to talk to you about your requirements. So venture out to the country and visit this lovely country inn - Highly recommended!

!!!! PADDYS DAY 2008 WHAT A DAY!!!

In the summer of 2007 Nicky married Duane and celebrated their wedding at the Kicking Donkey with the locals.

Yet another great day.
